Abstract

The article analyzes the collection of short stories written by Chinese-British-American author Edith Maude Eaton known under the pen name Sui Sin Far entitled "Mrs. Spring Fragrance" (1912), re-edited by Hsuan L. Hsu. Focus is given to her autobiographical essay entitled "Leaves from the Mental Portfolio of an Eurasian" in which she claims her Chinese identity. Her aim to depict the Chinese in America, her writing style, and her double ethnicity are discussed.
