Abstract

The article reports that an injury in the wrist of golfer Tom Gillis, who plays out of Indianwood Country Club in Orion Township, Michigan, is an obstacle to his first full season on the PGA Tour. As of the end of March 2003, 34-year-old Gillis, had succeeded in just one of three starts on the tour. But he is expecting more opportunities in the summer of 2003. “Every day I am thankful I get the chance to play on tour,” he said. Gillis, one of the few Americans to play the European Tour full time for the past five years, is an example of patience and persistence. “He is probably a little bit behind (where he wants to be),” said Dave Whelan, Gillis' swing coach. “I am just feeling my way around,” said Gillis, who estimates he will play as many as 25 events.
