Abstract
- This article discusses the Beijing-Tianjin Sandstorm Control Program launched by the Chinese government in June 2000. The program is aimed at developing an environment that would improve Beijing's international status to host a green Olympics while safeguarding social and economic development. The article also explores the impact of the program on Beijing, Tianjin and surrounding countryside, and the necessity for controlling land degradation and desertification in North China.
