Abstract

The article considers the question of power and resistance in the fields of technoscience from the perspective of French philosopher Michel Foucault with particular focus given to the history of the public debate and criticism over nuclear energy in France. Foucault's notion of governmentality and the notions of governance and technoscience governance are discussed. Topics include the French government's initiative to build nuclear power plants during the 1970s despite negative public opinion, the period after the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident of 1986 (Chornobyl, Ukraine), and the emergence of ecologism and its criticism over the effects of nuclear energy during the mid-1970s.
