Abstract
- The article discusses a study which examined methodological approaches to assess the safety of ship navigation in broken ice and the ice-going properties of ships. It describes the variability and changes in various periods of ice navigation and ice distribution in the seas of Russian Far East in winter. It also cites methodological difficulties in defining the economic efficiency criterion of a merchant ship intended for ice navigation.
