Abstract

The article discusses the fabrication and use of xuan paper created from a mix green sandalwood and straw fibers in Jingxian, China. It is noted that during the Ming Dynasty, xuan paper was composed of green sandalwood only and that prior to the emergence of this type of paper, paper made from bark known as pizhi was used during the assembly and restoration of works of art. It discusses the classification and types of xuan paper used and the paper manufacturing process, which includes natural sun bleaching.
