Abstract

The article reports that shoot-outs and gunplay were becoming common in southern British Columbia waters. History of the Beryl G murders happened on September 29, 1924, when the crew of the rum-runner Ironbark exchanged fire with government officials as they attempted to board the launch in Cadboro Bay is discussed. West Coast rumrunner Johnny Schnarr figured that all the violence back in 1924 actually had a beneficial effect.
