THE PORTABLE PRESS AND FIELD PRINTING DURING THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR.

The article discusses the role of the portable press and field printing in the U.S. Civil War. According to the author, portable presses were used by both the Union and Confederate armies and navies and allowed them to quickly produce and distribute urgent military orders as well as requisition forms and other materials such as unit newsletters. Details on the design of various portable presses, including the Lowe Press and the Army Press, are presented.
