Abstract

This article discusses the religious tradition known as the Virgen de la Viña (Virgin of the Vineyard) in Salta, Argentina, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The author comments on the devotional aspects of this tradition and describes the role of both secular and religious clergy in developing and popularizing the worship of this figure. She also focuses on the growth in the participation of the citizens of Salta during this time period, referred to as the homogenization of devotion.
