Abstract

The article examines historiography related to the usage of the expression Trente Glorieuses, or Glorious Thirties, which refers to the years 1945 to 1975 in France and was coined by French economist and well-known intellectual Jean Fourastié in 1979. The author revisits the periodization of those years and argues that the expression does not accurately reflect the social and cultural evolution of that time period. Topics discussed include Fourastié's book "Les trente glorieuses ou la révolution invisible de 1946 à 1975," the Glorious Thirties and contemporary perceptions, and the speed at which this expression became popular.
