Abstract

The article presents ethnographic research which looks at how the police constructs the definition of prostitution based on its professional practices, more specifically, reasons why it qualifies or not persons of interest as prostitutes during its battle against prostitution. Street prostitution as defined by the police in the absence of a legal definition and police officers labeling a deviant woman as a prostitute as an act of social domination are also discussed.
