In this article the authors reflect on the challenges that parents of children with disabilities face and offer their opinions on the benefits that the parents could find from working together with clinicians and researchers and sharing information about the disabilities in an effort to foster the development of appropriate interventions. The need for a national registry on disabilities in the U.S. discussed. An overview of the health advocacy organization the Genetic Alliance is offered.
