Abstract

The article discusses a study which investigated the water quality in the gulf of Annaba in Algeria using selected biomarkers in the edible mollusc Donax trunculus (D. trunculus). The biomarker responses in the mollusc are said to be associated with environmental pollution. Variables measured in D. trunculus are mentioned including seasonal variations of the rate of malondialdehyde (MDA) and the specific activity of specific enzymes. Seasonal variations found in relation to environmental factors are discussed.
