Abstract

The article discusses how the gardening team are managing the flower borders, vegetable beds and other areas in the five-acre walled garden of Houghton Hall in Norfolk, England in the midst of summer. The gardeners keep the lawns crisply cut and edged, water remaining salad crops, and net cabbage and other brassicas. They also harvest soft fruits, take off the faded blooms of the roses, pick flowers for indoor use, prune overgrown magnolias, and keep the temperature in glasshouses down.
