Abstract
- The article discusses a medieval Latin inscription dating to the time of Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III at the cathedral of Trieste, Italy, which was inspired by an ancient Latin inscription dating to the late Roman Republic during the consulate of Octavian. The authors outline the political circumstances of both inscriptions and the corresponding aspects of the history of Trieste. Particular emphasis is placed on the attempts by Frederick to establish a line of succession from Octavian to himself.
