Abstract

This article reports that many businesses are working to leverage game mechanics including avatars, leaderboards and online badges in non-game environments. The move aims to drive sales and user engagement, enhance learning and increase productivity. Brian Blau of Gartner Inc. mentions that Badgeville, Big Door or Bunchball are the top gamification companies. NBC.com, National Football League and Verizon Wireless are also cited as among organizations using gamification to drive user behavior.
