Abstract

The article discusses the results of a study that examines the movements, home ranges and roost site preferences of Cinereous Vultures Aegypius monachus at the Türkmenbaba Mountains in western Turkey. The birds were tracked by fitting them with Global Positioning System (GPS)-Global System for Mobile (GSM) transmitters. The study shows that tracked birds used small foraging areas and on averaged moved less than 10 kilometers (km) per day. It suggests that first-year birds from Turkey flew south in October and November to desert locations in middle latitude Arabia.
