Abstract

The article focuses on the practice of money bail and for-profit bail bonding. It says that money bail is a primary driver of growth in the jail populations, in which nearly 11.8 million people are processed by jails across the U.S. It states that a lot of people remained jail pretrial detainees because they do not have money to buy their freedom. Moreover, no one who offered pretrial release on money bail has to use a bail bondsman.
