Abstract
- The article focuses on the archaeological dating campaigns of the master tower and its hoard, or wooden frame, of the castle château de Laval located in Laval, France. It discusses the initial dendrochronological analysis in 2004 which was dedicated to the hoard and its two construction phases, including the one which lasted from 1215 to 1230, and the second analysis which took place in 2011 and focused on the tower's reparation phase from 1334 to 1347. According to the author, the construction is linked to the marriage between Emma de Laval and Mathieu II de Montmorency, the supreme commander for French King Philippe-Auguste, which is suggested to have taken place in July 1218.
