Abstract
- The article examines the pre-thirteenth-century Byzantine reliquary, relic, and inscribed text work of Saint Marina or Margaret of Antioch. It cites the book "The Medieval Poetics of the Reliquary" by Seeta Chaganti in which the performance element of reliquaries was discussed and the lengthy and intriguing cared Greek inscription in the small silver gilt reliquary of Saint Marina which engages the viewer/reader/devotee. It mentions the history of the Byzantine cult of the holy martyr Marina who is know with special power over demons and ability to protect against demonic possession. It also notes the interaction of viewers with the reliquary and the saint it commemorates the reliquary, relic, and inscribed text work of Saint Marina.
