Abstract
- The article presents a study on atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) on cotton fabric. It mentions the modification of the fabric through graft polymerization which provides a significant access to change physical and chemical properties including heat resistance, elasticity and antibacterial activity. It notes that the said polymerization method depends on the reversible reaction of low and high oxidation-state metal complexes with alkyl halide and halide ligand respectively. It also points out the application of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) for showing the presence of polymer grafted onto the surface of the cotton.
