Abstract

The article presents a zoological study on the sex ratio and mating behavior in calanoid copepod Pseudodiaptomus annandalei. The plasticity of encounters, the rejection rate and the mate guarding duration were examined through the use of optical systems. The study found that females have stronger choosiness when encounters were high and relaxation when encounters were low. The author states that even though sex ratio is supposed to induce modification in mate guarding, no differences were found. It concludes that the results should lead to debates and new insights on how sex ratio affects copepod mating behavior.
