Abstract
- The article presents criticism of the motion picture "Incendies," by Denis Villeneuve, adapted from the play "Incendies" (Scorched), by Canadian writer Wajdi Mouawad. It examines the representation of violence and cruelty in Villeneuve's film with a particular focus given to two film sequences which treat violence in a more exacerbated manner, including the burning bus scene and the one with Nihad, the sniper. It also looks at the representation of violence and cruelty in Mouawad's play.
