Abstract

The article describes the strategy of six teachers in teaching canonical texts. The author states that teacher Thomas teaches "As I Lay Dying" with a very deep love for literature and a stunning mind full of literary nuance and fun. It notes that teacher Sarah teaches "To King a Mockingbird" at a brisker pace while injecting personal insight. Carmen started to teach "Night" through an ethics quiz, asking her students to agree or disagree on moral issues embedded in the text.
