An interview with Japanese musician VERBAL is presented. In this article, VERBAL talks about his early background in the music scene as a member of the hip-hop trio, m-flo and his shift to Teriyaki Boyz. He recalls that his visit to the U.S. as a fifth-grader exposed and inspired him to develop interest in hip-hop music and culture. VERBAL also talks about the results of collaborations with foreign artists and the economic impact of club closures by Japan's police force.
