Abstract

The article presents information on a tour made by Daniel Stowell, director of the Papers of Abraham Lincoln, to Meisei University in Japan, which stores the largest collection of Lincoln documents outside the U.S. The first of the documents that Stowell opened at the university, contained an account written by a 23-year-old Abraham Lincoln in January 1833 that the U.S. Papers project did not have. Meisei collection also has a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Lincoln.
