Abstract
- The article relates how Explorers Club Flag #161 got inside the submersible Deepsea Challenger on its Challenger Deep descent in 2012. Such flags are reportedly loaned to recipients and must returned in due time after an expedition, although rare cases of delays also occur. The article states that the flag application for Deepsea Challenger was made on short notice and that the venerable Flag #161, which had reached Mt. Everest twice and is due for retirement was selected for the vessel.
