Abstract
- The article presents a study which examined whether inward-rectifier K<superscript>+</superscript> channels and reentry are also important in maintaining stretch-induced atrial fibrillation (SAF). A hypothesis was made that reentry underlies SAF, and that rejecting reentry with chloroquine terminates SAF more effectively than traditional Na<superscript>+</superscript>- channel blockade by flecainide. Chloroquine was found to be more effective in terminating SAF by increasing core size and decreasing reentry frequency.
