Abstract
- The article focuses on the symbolism of fire before and after the shootings in Kent State University in Kent, Ohio on May 4, 1970. It states that fire become a symbol of student demonstration in the university when students protests the incursion of America into Cambodia wherein the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) building of the university was burned into ground. It says after the ROTC building was burned, National Guardsmen who seeks to disperse the crowd of students, started to fire their weapon wherein four people died and nine were injured. It argued that arson as used in demonstration reflects that fire symbol and fire power could not be separated.
