Abstract
- Abstract: Veterinarians face many challenges when an avian patient is hospitalized for a prolonged period of time. Debilitated birds are often anorexic, which can quickly lead to severe weight loss and further deterioration of their clinical condition. For these patients, tube feeding becomes an essential part of a complete treatment plan. However, prolonged handling can amplify stress in these birds and a rapid delivery of nutrients is required as part of a treatment plan. To maximize the success of this treatment, a thorough knowledge of general avian restraint and the tube feeding process is necessary for the medical team responsible for treating the patient.
