Abstract

The article determines if causal mechanisms for development of hypertension in young spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) involves integration of an upregulation of structurally based vascular resistance properties and rightward shift in hemodynamic component of pressure-natriuresis. It is suggested that renal medullary vascular resistance properties are elevated early in hypertension development. It is shown that medullary hemodynamics may reset pressure-natriuresis in young SHRs.
