Abstract
- The article discusses the European Union (EU) Council of Ministers' approval of a Sound Recordings Extension Directive (SRED) on September 12, 2011, as well as information on the protection of copyrights held by musicians. The impact of the SRED on performing artists is also addressed, along with an analysis of the U.S. Supreme Court case Eldred v. Ashcroft. The author argues that there is a monopoly right over sound recordings in the EU.
