Abstract

The article presents a study on the outbreak of abortion by Toxoplasma gondii in goats on a farm in the Brazilian Midwest. Gross lesions were not observed in seven aborted fetuses submitted to the Veterinary Pathology Laboratory, Federal University of Mato Grosso for necropsy investigation. The main histologic lesions were found to be mononuclear cell pneumonia and necrotizing encephalitis in different degrees of intensity. The study found that Toxoplasma gondii infection should be considered in the diagnosis of abortion in goats in Midwest Brazil.
