Abstract
- The article reviews the Philippine species of Scaphobaeocera and Xotidium of the Scaphisomatini (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Scaphidiinae), both belonging to the Baeocera group, and provides a key to the species of Scaphobaeocera. Members of these two genera are said to have the body laterally compressed and the ventrites highly vaulted, both features correlated with approximate metacoxae. It notes that the third and more species-rich genus of the group occurring in the Philippines, Baeocera, will be treated in a separate study. These three genera reportedly share two unreversed synapomorphies, aciculate maxillary palpi and the presence of prothoracic corbicula. It describes and illustrates the new species including Scaphobaeocera bulbosa, S. complicans, and S. davaoana among others.
