Abstract

The article presents a study on the pelagic ecosystem processes in the Southern Ocean during the ANT-XXVI/2 expedition that started from the bunker pier Cabo Negro near the town of Punta Arenas in Chile on November 27, 2009. The researchers collected vertical seawater samples at five depths in all conductivity, temperature and depth (CTD) stations, which were decanted into either plastic bottles or into sample bottles from Niskin bottles. They found that the extensive plankton data can help extend the understanding of the plankton community structure and the impact of environmental factors on plankton.
