Abstract
- The article presents a study to determine the effects of a contraceptive vaccine on eastern gray squirrels (EGS). The administration of vaccine was through a combination of pelage characteristics of body weight. The animals were trapped in seasons and were killed for necropsy to evaluate histologic changes in testes and ovaries. The study reveals that treated EGS males had testicular, prostatic and epididymal atrophy when compared to controlled EGS males while there were no histologic changes in EGS females. The study demonstrates the potential of the GonaCon™ to control EGS population.
