Abstract

The article presents an in-depth examination into the history and political background of the second symphony "The Age of Anxiety" of the 20th-century U.S. conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein. Extensive discussion is given describing the influence of the anti-communist movement of McCarthyism and the broader political-psychological culture of the U.S. during the 1950s on the work.
