Abstract

The article offers a study of the effects of thinning on East Asian subtropical plantation forest diversity, using a comparison of spider communities and guild composition in Chamaecyparis formosensis forests in central Taiwan. It says that thinning practices alter the understory vegetation structures in a subtropical C. formosensis plantation, despite not increasing its species richness. Moreover, this alteration can increase habitat heterogeneity and spider diversity.
