Abstract
- The article examines the role played by nonprofit organizations in the evolution of camps in the U.S. since the mid-1800s. It states that camps affiliated with nonprofit organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, the Jewish Community Center (JCC) and the YMCA aimed at helping children of diverse backgrounds through outdoor experiences. It is noted these nonprofit organizations were influential in raising generations of successful innovators and leaders.
