Abstract
- The article focuses on the introduction of the new tax regime for dividends and the rules for calculating low-rate income pool (LRIP) and general-rate income pool (GRIP) in Canada. It explores the anomalies and problems that can arise from the limited coverage of the transitional GRIP addition for the 2001-2005 taxation years, as well as issues of amalgamations and windups, and payment of intercompany dividends. It discusses GRIP and LRIP considerations in acquisitions and mergers.
