Abstract

The article examines the potential use of innovative legal structures in enabling microfinance loans to be funded directly from lower-cost capital market sources in the U.S. It explores some legal and business issues of first impression that could be raised from capital market approaches. Moreover, it is noted that disintermediation through securitization can be considered as an economically viable substitute to commercial bank intermediation.
