Abstract
- The article focuses on the reclaiming of the Côte-de-Beaune, a vineyard region located in the Côte d'Or department and the Burgundy region of France toward the end of the 18th century. The author overviews the history of the vin de Beaune (Beaune wine) commercial regulations during the Middle Ages providing insight on the essential process of formalizing a territory, which shows the evolution of socioeconomic constraints between collective rights and free trade. He focuses particularly on the years 1730-1740, a time of intense upheaval in the traditional structures of the Ancient Régime in Bourgogne (Burgundy), France. Topics include the emergence of associating a wine to a particular location during the 13th century and the role of merchants during the 1700s.
