Abstract

The article focuses on the potential use of Georgia State College for Women Building Committee member E. A. Tigner as the reference for the character named Edgar Atkins Teagarden (EAT) in the short story "A Good Man Is Hard to Find," by Flannery O'Connor. It says that O'Connor wrote the short story five years before Tigner died in 1948. It assumes that O'Connor might have thought of a man devoted to the education of women in Georgia, when she created the character EAT while thinking of Tigner.
