Abstract
- The article highlights loggerhead turtles Caretta caretta's at-sea movements and distribution, their habitat selection and the impact of injury for post-hooking mortality. The authors fitted 14 loggerhead turtles with satellite transmitters for their study and they observed the turtles' movement and behavior after releasing them off the coast of Peru. They revealed that after the release, the turtles moved away from the continental shelf and that after 60 days, eight of them had final displacements of less than 750 kilometers. The authors conclude that multinational approach should be taken to conserve sea turtles in the region.
