Abstract
- The article discusses the possible impact of the proposed Patent Amendment Bill introduced by a group of senators in Australia to change the country's Patents Act of 1990. It mentions that the proposed amendment aims to address the inequity access to new medicines and diagnostic tests by the Australian citizens to ensure standard inventions and to secure Australian researcher that they are not encumbered by patent claims. It says that the Intellectual Property Laws Amendment Bill addresses the legitimate concerns of the community about gene patenting than the proposed Patent Amendment Bill. It adds that if the Patent Amendment Bill will be implemented, the Australian patients will find it difficult to access treatments.
