Abstract

The article discusses the inclusion of seven-a-side rugby (rugby sevens) in the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. The sport, a spinoff the traditional fifteen-a-side (fifteens) and classified as amateur in the U.S., gained mainstream legitimacy. Fifteens, a physical and tactical sport that is 80 minutes long, while rugby sevens with games that are 14 minutes long, require athletes to be quick, as well as possess tackling skills, passing skills and evasive running skills.
