Abstract

The article discusses research done on the environmental control of the breeding success of rhinoceros auklets Cerorhinca monocerata in Triangle Island, British Columbia. The researchers used historical satellite data time series of sea surface temperature, winds, and chlorophyll to assess the oceanography of the remote colony. Results indicated that the occurrence of spring transition in regional winds and the resulting spring phytoplankton bloom in April results in the success of rhinoceros auklet breeding.
