Abstract

The study adopted Tetraethoxy Silane (TEOS) as raw material. It was processed by a series of hydrolysis, condensation, and polymerization reactions to form SiO<subscript>2</subscript> particulate carriers. Afterwards, it was reacted with N-octadecyltrichloxysilane (ODS) under the control of hydrolysis-condensation polymerization to form long chain alkyl polymer. The polymer compound was analyzed by FTIR, EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectrometer), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope,) to verify the surface of SiO<subscript>2</subscript> particulate carriers grafted with long chain structure of alkyl group. The long chain alkyl structure compounds were formulated with various concentrations of hydrophobic agent as the superhydrophobic agents of this study. We evaluated the performance of disposing SiO<subscript>2</subscript> and the analysis of physical property. And also verified the hydrolytic condensation of SiO<subscript>2</subscript> and ODS. The results showed that after hydrolytic condensation, SiO<subscript>2</subscript> was added three absorbed peak. And the thermal decomposition rate of SiO<subscript>2</subscript> compounds improved the stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
