Abstract

The article talks about antithrombotic therapy with patients with heart failure (HF). The risk of increased venous thromboembolism (VTE) is present in patients that have suffered HF. The role of antithrombotic therapy remains unclear despite increased risk of VTE. There is difficulty in making decisions when it comes to administering antithrombotic therapy to patients with HF. Alternative anticoagulants and anti-platelet agents such as direct thrombin inhibitors, factor Xa inhibitors, and thrombin receptor antagonists are being developed and reassessed.
