Abstract

The article discusses the need to provide the youth and high school endurance athletes with the correct fundamentals for training to race in distances of 800 meters and longer. The U.S. fell short of being productive at the elite level of world competition as training programs focus on traditional training scheme that does not develop a complete runner. It provides a training scheme where coaches can use the phenomenon of stress and adaptation of muscles cells and periodic training based on strength and speed that will develop a complete runner.
